Offering total seclusion and stunning vistas, these unique treehouse stays are perfect for a different type of staycation this year.

Treehouses are no longer exclusively for kids. Airbnb has amazing, luxury treehouse rentals available for weekend getaways, Easter holidays and summer adventures. Across the country, guests can indulge childhood nostalgia in an upscale fashion and stay in a cabin amidst the treetops, with woodland vistas and modern amenities.

Here are the six best treehouse stays in Ireland right now.

Urban Tranquilatree, Co Cork

This authentic treehouse is just a five-minute walk from Cork City centre, but you couldn’t tell that upon arrival. Surrounded by trees, it sits six metres off the ground with its own rope bridge entrance. It is fully insulated with a double bedroom and viewing deck, with views of the city and surrounding leafy treetops. Warm croissants are provided for breakfast via a pulley system from below. Stays from 140 per night.

Tuckmill Treehouse, Co Wicklow

If you are looking for a tech-free stay, away from the news, emails and social media, then Tuckmill is the perfect escape for two. Nestled in a wooded area by a farm, this Airbnb has no TV or wifi on purpose. French doors open out onto a large deck, where guests can view deer, red squirrels, ponies, peacocks and more wildlife. Based in Baltinglass Town, the house is right by the start of the Wicklow Way, a walking trail that starts in Dublin’s Marlay Park, passes through County Wicklow and ends in Clonegal in Carlow. Stays from 130 per night.

The Swallow’s Return, Co Louth

In Carlingford, this treehouse is located at the back of the friendly owner’s property, seven feet off the ground and enclosed by towering Sycamore trees. Ideal for small families or friends, the house is made of shiplap timber and sleeps up to four people (with one bedroom and a pullout bed). The rental has all the amenities of a brick-and-mortar house with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, a full bathroom, electric heating and a small balcony. Kids will love the swings and trampoline on the property as well. Stays from €112 per night.

Ox Mountain Treehouse, Co Sligo

Situated within Ox Mountain Adventure Camp, guests will never want for things to do. Plenty of outdoor activities are available, including tours with habitat guides, archery lessons, golf, horseback riding, fishing on the nearby Lough Easky and Lough Talt and walking and cycling trails along The Sligo Way. The accommodation itself sleeps five, with two bedrooms and one bathroom, a kitchen and dining area, and a hammock on deck — the ultimate summer reading spot. Stays from €90 per night.

The Birdbox, Co Donegal

This bright and modern treehouse has colourful interiors and breathtaking views of Glenveagh National Park. Made for adults only, the small place makes smart use of space with a kitchenette, a compact bathroom and a mezzanine with a double bed above the living area. The house also has a rope bridge and private deck with patio furniture and fairy lights. And, because it is in a Gaeltacht area, trad music is easy to find at the local pubs just a short five-minute drive away. Stays from €85 per night.

Wicklow Wilderness Tree Tents, Co Wicklow

Technically, this is a tree tent and not a treehouse, but it is a similar elevated experience. Located on a privately owned woodland in Rathdrum, guests stay in a tree tent suspended above the ground. Owned by Tipi Adventures, the camping site is focused on eco-friendly accommodation; there is no running water or electricity, but there are composting toilets and hand-sanitising stations available for use. The experience has raving reviews and with campfire parties, nature lessons and a knowledgeable, friendly host, it is a great place to throw a birthday bash this summer. Stays from 90 per night.
