If you dream of a tranquil spot on the coast, one of these cottages could be perfect.

The thought of having a home in a peaceful spot overlooking the sea is a particularly appealing one for many of us. A place to retreat to away from it all, not to mention the gorgeous views and access to beach walks and sea swims – positively dreamy.

We’ve found three cottages on the Atlantic coast currently on the market that all fit the brief perfectly. Read on for some ideal daydreaming material…

Inishnee, Roundstone, Co Galway, €485,000

Located on the Inishnee peninsula close to an area of protected habitat, providing regular sightings of uncommon birds, flowers, insects and wildlife, as well as the popular spots Gurteen and Dog’s Bay, this stone cottage is in an incredible location.

With direct access to the coast and original features, it has plenty of traditional charm. It features one bedroom, and an open plan kitchen and living area with a stove. The home would benefit from some modernisation, but seems to be in good condition.

Derrygimblagh, Ballyconneely, Co Galway, €500,000

Sitting between two notable beaches, Nun’s beach and Coral Strand, this one-bed cottage sits on around 4 acres of land, with direct access to the sea. Just 10 minutes’ drive from Clifden, it’s close to amenities while also having the best of a peaceful coastal location.

Inside, the property is in need of renovation, but has the potential to be a spectacular home.

Glenoory, Downings, Co Donegal, €495,000

Overlooking Tra Na Rossan Bay on a plot of 44 acres, this home is perched on a breathtaking spot on the north-west coast.

Although the cottage needs some modernisation inside, its exterior is attractive, thanks to stonework and external shutters. The home currently has one bedroom, but several outbuildings connected to the house provide scope to extend, subject to planning permission.
