Sending and receiving Christmas cards is one of our favourite seasonal traditions, so here are some Irish-made designs that will bring a smile to anyone's face.
Who doesn't love getting a Christmas card in the post? Literally no-one. After the initial excitement of wondering who sent it and reading the message inside, you then have a ready-made decoration to add a festive touch to your home. Whether you go for the classic mantlepiece display or hang them with string, Christmas cards will always make a space feel special.
This year, we're planning to buy some cards from Irish designers and illustrators. As well as supporting local creatives, it's also much more sustainable than buying cards that have been mass-produced and shipped from abroad. Here are a few of the designs we'll be popping in the post...
Bold Bunny cards are designed and made in Ireland, and this one even has its seasonal greetings as Gaeilge. We love the pared-back print, and even better, it's printed on card made from 100% ECF pulps making it environmentally friendly. Nollaig Shona Botanica Glas, €3.25, Bold Bunny
Dublin illustrator Rachel Corcoran has created this sweet festive scene. With such beautiful detail, it could even be framed to keep as a decoration year after year. Nollaig Shona card, €4.50, Rachel Corcoran
A beautiful card that your recipient will definitely want to keep, these three nativity designs are laser-cut with stars to reveal the white lining of the card. Created by husband-and-wife duo Fiona and Michael, they're perfect for marking a special Christmas. Nativity card pack, €15, Irish Design Shop
Starring an icon of any Irish Christmas, this card is guaranteed to get a laugh. It has the added bonus of serving as an invitation to come round for tea over the festive season, without even having to run into them in the supermarket. USA card, €3, Fingerdoodles
This card is 100% cotton, made from recovered cotton fibres, and the envelope is 100% recycled, so you can send it knowing it's making minimal environmental impact. The adorable robin design is also applied by a letterpress, giving it a wonderfully tactile finish. Robin card, €4.50, The Pear in Paper
Featuring prints of watercolour designs by Sonia Caldwell, these packs of cards come in biodegradable cellophane. You can choose from a pack featuring Ivy and Birch, or Holly and Pine. Pack of six Christmas cards, €9.50, Kilcoe Studios
This foil-adorned design is created by Cork-based illustrator Lily Corcoran of Petal to Petal. It comes in a pack of five, so the only thing to decide is which five lucky people are going to get one. Christmas luxury gold foiled greeting card pack, €12.50, Petal to Petal
