A look inside our special edition devoted to Irish design, which hits shelves today…

Design is everywhere. From the cup your latte comes in to the chair in your kitchen and the keyboard I’m typing this on – design shapes everything we interact with. So this issue we’re particularly excited to explore so many aspects of Irish design, in celebration of 2015 being the Year of Design, a year-long programme of more than 300 events at home and overseas.

Dublin is going to be the World Design Hub, so a lot of eyes will look our way. And what will they see? An exciting, thriving, innovative design scene.?Our writer Sheenagh Green – an insanely talented ceramic artist in her own right – hunted out the very best of Irish creativity and craft for our special report.

It’s vital that we celebrate home-grown talent.?Not just because it’s great to support our own, but because it’s part of a larger, global conversation about how things are made, and about appreciating quality and care and craftsmanship.

And this is where I segue nicely into our reader homes, the first of which very much appreciates quality craftsmanship. Antiques collector?Geoff Kirk‘s house in Dublin 4 is going to be a delight for any lover of mid-century ??you can’t swing an Egg chair without hitting an iconic design classic. We then have a clean and modern period restoration of a Ranelagh redbrick and some stunning inspiration from Europe.

Scroll through the gallery above for some of our favourite images from this special collector’s edition.

Enjoy the issue!
