Taylor Swift’s success knows no bounds. Everyone’s favourite celebrity instagrammer meets country-turned-pop singer has yet another accolade to be majorly proud about. The 24-year-old is the first female singer to succeed herself on the US Billboard Top 100 after her new single Blank Space bumped Shake It Off after the number one spot, where it was top of the charts for the past four weeks. Yes, Taylor Swift’s main competitor is Taylor Swift.

Previous artists who have accomplished this feat include the Beatles and Usher. 1989, Swift’s current album, remains number one in the album charts after a consecutive three weeks of amazing sales. So far 2 million copies have been sold, making 1989 the second best-selling album of 2014, with only the Frozen soundtrack beating the singer’s first concentrated pop production.

Swift has also been busy taking a stance against Spotify during her promotional tour for 1989. The artist removed her back catalogue from the streaming service over claims that the site doesn’t reward its artists in a meaningful way. In an interview with Yahoo Music she summed up her position, “I’m not willing to contribute my life’s work to an experiment that I don’t feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists, and creators of this music.?

Swift’s past three albums have shifted more than a million copies each in their first week of release (she’s the only artist to have notched such staggering figures), you can take it as a given she knows what she’s on about when it comes to profits. Critics continue to crow that Swift is ignoring the realities of the modern music industry. It seems however the lady is not for turning – she’s even repeated her stance again the Spotify model in an op-ed The Wall Street Journal.

As for the haters? Here’s a reply Taylor prepped earlier.
