Whatever your summer plans, O’Briens have you covered with their Spanish Wine Sale
28th Jun 2019
Whether you’re planning on having friends over for a barbecue, a light dinner for two, or just enjoying an evening glass in the garden, you can get a quality wine at a great price in the O’Briens Spanish Wine Sale.
Now that summer has finally arrived, it’s time to put in action all those long-dreamed of warm-weather plans. Picnics in the park, drinks with friends – all those things you’ve been wanting to do, but the nip in the air was putting you off.
Whatever the occasion, you can find a great quality wine for it at O’Briens Spanish Wine Sale. With 20-50% off over 90 wines from Rioja to Rías Baixas, they have an extensive range of whites, reds and rosés to suit every taste. It ends on Sunday 7th July, though, so don’t hang around. Here is our pick of the sale, and where we’re planning to drink each.
An evening with friends
This Gran Volante has notes of dark fruit, spice, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle vanilla. This fruity, spicy combination makes it perfect to serve with a meat and cheese board – ideal if you have a few friends round. It’s simple to prepare too, because who has time to make something fussy when the sun’s shining? Gran Volante, €7.45 down from €14.95 (save 50%)
Drinks with the girls
Whether you’re heading out or just having chats at home, make your next evening with the girls feel a bit special with something bubbly. This Valhondo Rosé Cava is made by the traditional method, where the bubbles are formed by a second fermentation occurring inside the bottle, where cheaper versions have sugar and yeast added in a pressurised tank to achieve their sparkling nature.
A blend of Monastell and Pinot Noir, this Rosé is bursting with strawberry and cherry notes, a lovely summery treat. Valhondo Rosé Cava NV, €12.95 down from €17.95 (save 27%)
A glass in the garden
This zesty Albariño is made exclusively for O’Briens by the Paco y Lola winery in the Salnés Valley. Its pear and citrus fruit profile makes it delicious to drink by itself, say, soaking up the last of the sun on a warm evening. Its crisp acidity also means it pairs well with tapas like olives, should you fancy a Spanish snack to accompany your drink. Ophalum Albariño, €12.95 down from €18.95 (save 32%)
At the barbecue
This Paternina Gran Reserva is a blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha. After a long fermentation the wine is aged for 24 months in oak before being laid down in the winery’s 16th century cellars for a further 3 years.
This extended maturation means it’s robust with floral and spicy notes, which stands up well to rich, meaty flavours. Pop open a bottle at your next barbecue to complement your carefully chosen steaks. Federico Paternina Gran Reserva Rioja, €14.95 down from €24.95 (save 40%)
A simple supper
Long summer days mean you can pack so much in, but this can often mean you’re grabbing something in a rush for dinner. Seafood is great for this as it cooks in no time at all, whether you prefer prawns, mussels, or a simple white fish.
With just garlic and a squeeze of lemon, you have an instant, delicious meal, and make it even better with this organic, single-vineyard Verdejo from Rueda in northern Spain. Its notes of aniseed, wild herbs, citrus and stone fruits make it an ideal partner for fresh seafood dishes. De Alberto Organic Verdejo – €11.96 down from €14.95 (save 20%)
An alfresco weekend lunch
We love our Sunday roast here in Ireland, but why not serve it alfresco when the weather’s good? If you’re serving beef or lamb, this Monte Real Gran Reserva is the perfect pairing.
One of the finest examples of Rioja Gran Reserva available, its full-bodied style with layer upon layer of fruit and sweet spice will turn any meal into a special occasion. Monte Real Gran Reserva , €16.95 down from €33.45 (save 50%)
