AMA 2014

While we were all watching Jamie Dornan in The Fall last night, the 42nd annual American Music Awards was taking place in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. As was the case with the European version two weeks ago, pop music ruled the roost with One Direction taking home three awards including Arist of the Year, Best Pop/Rock band and Best Pop/Rock album for Midnight Memories. Katy Perry also scooped three awards for Best Female Pop Artist, Best Single and Best Adult Contemporary Artist.

Iggy Azaela came up trumps in her battle against Eminem as she won both of the Rap/Hip-Hop awards on the night, while B?yonce was awarded with Best Female Artist and Best Album in the Soul/R&B category. The awards came too late for Taylor Swift to pick up any nominations but that didn’t stop her from stealing the show with a powerful rendition of Blank Space. Her night wasn’t over there as she became the first recipient of the Dick Clark Award for Excellence, presented by Diana Ross.
