Ireland’s first Tiki bar opens this Friday and we have all the details you need to know
For many of you, doing anything remotely connected to alcohol this month may be too much to handle. However, if you are feeling like you want to brush off some of the January dust and venture back into socialising you are in luck.
This Friday Ireland’s first Tiki bar will open in Dublin on Harcourt Street helping to rid those post-Christmas blues. ‘OHANA is a contemporary rum Tiki bar that is an exotic and stylish take on the traditional Tiki bar. Over the last decade, these bars have appeared in cities such as New York and London and its appeal has grown.
Now Dublin is following suit with ‘OHANA which will house 300 rums, including the most exclusive Barcardi Family range on the Irish market.
Drinks on offer include Chai Rum, an ultra-premium creation from Trinidad and Tobago, as well as their own blended offerings. If you like a good cocktail you are in luck with an extensive menu that has a strong focus on Irish spirits such as Slingshot Gin and Glendalough Whiskey.
Not only are the drinks good but the interior is something to behold and is inspired by the colours and sounds of places such as Hawaii and Easter Island. The colour palette is a mix of teals and crystal blue. While pineapples and palm trees make an appearance on custom wallpaper alongside bamboo cladding, Tiki heads and Easter Island statues.
The first Tiki bars appeared in the United States in the 1930s and are a reflection of Polynesian culture and style. The word ‘Ohana’ means family and was carefully chosen by the team to represent the young and dynamic team behind the creation of the bar, which includes experienced operators Doug Leddin, Will Lynch and Paddy Noir.
Doug Leddin, the creative operative of ‘OHANA, said of the venture: “We have had so much fun creating ‘OHANA, and I know we have some of the best staff from all corners of the world as part of our new family here. We all love what we do and hope that is evident in the individual experience our customers will find here.
“This isn’t just another ‘premium’ bar opening in Dublin. This is a fun and creative space where we can experiment with new cocktails, rum blends, spirits and so much more, while always changing with the demands and trends of our customers.”
The bars opens from 5 pm until late Monday to Friday and from 3 pm until late on the weekends.
