Mark Zuckerberg And Wife Open Up About Pregnancy Struggles

Mark Zuckerberg And Wife Open Up About Pregnancy Struggles

The Facebook family is about to get a new addition. Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have announced they are expecting a baby girl. The couple made the announcement on Facebook (of course), but the heartfelt message was all the more touching as they chose to reveal that they have had a lot of trouble trying to start their family.

In the post, they said that Priscilla has suffered three miscarriages over the years. ??This will be a new chapter in our lives. We want to share one experience to start. We’ve been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way,? they wrote.

They go on to discuss the pain of losing a child, at a time when they should have been so filled with hope for the future, and add that the topic of miscarriages just isn’t discussed by many, and that it’s a ?lonely? experience to go through.

?You feel so hopeful when you learn you’re going to have a child. You start imagining who they’ll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they’re gone. It’s a lonely experience. Most people don’t discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you — as if you’re defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own,? the post continued.

We think it’s a very brave post to write. As a couple they have obviously been through some heartbreaking times, and we commend them for speaking so openly about a topic that many just don’t talk about. They said they wanted to share their experiences to give those that may have gone through similar situations the same hope that they felt.

“We hope that sharing our experience will give more people the same hope we felt and will help more people feel comfortable sharing their stories as well.?

?When we started talking to our friends, we realised how frequently this happened — that many people we knew had similar issues and that nearly all had healthy children after all. We hope that sharing our experience will give more people the same hope we felt and will help more people feel comfortable sharing their stories as well,? Mark said.

The pair are feeling optimistic about the birth of their daughter – ?Our good news is that our pregnancy is now far enough along that the risk of loss is very low and we are very hopeful? – and we wish them all the best.

We love that they bravely chose to speak out about such a difficult issue.
