Do you have loved ones abroad? Here are the final posting dates to ensure your friends and family receive their Christmas cards (or parcels) on time
Christmas Day is fast approaching and the team at An Post is working hard to ensure all cards and parcels reach their destination on time. But, for that to happen, the post office needs everything to be sent on time too. If your friends and family are based in Australia, New Zealand or America (or anywhere outside of Europe), you’ll need to get a move on.
Whether you’re posting a festive greeting abroad or around Ireland, here are the key dates you need to know:
Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland
The last day to send Christmas cards, letters or parcels by standard post (or registered post) around Ireland is Friday, December 20. If you’re willing to pay for Express Post, you have until Saturday, December 21.
Great Britain
If you’re sending festive greetings by post to Great Britain, you must have everything stamped and sent by Thursday, December 19.
Europe
Standard cards and letters to Europe can be posted any time before close-of-business on Thursday, December 19. Parcels, on the other hand, need to be sent by Friday, December 13.
Of course, if you’re willing to pay for registered post, you can wait until Monday, December 16. But perhaps it’s best to send things sooner rather than later.
USA
Time is quickly running out if you want to post a Christmas card or letter to America. Sending it by standard post? It needs to go by Tuesday, December 10. Or, if you’re sending a parcel (by standard or registered post), you’ll need to send it by close-of-business today, Friday, December 6.
Rest of the world (including Australia and New Zealand)
Today – Friday, December 6 – is the last day to send Christmas cards or parcels if you want to be guaranteed they’ll arrive on-time. Whether you’re sending season’s greetings by standard or registered post – make sure they’re sent by close-of-business.
An Post has asked customers to be aware that international mail delivery times are estimates and subject to local postal operator delays. What’s more, “customers should note that there will be no mail collection on December 24th”.
