Here’s a list of charities you can help this Christmas

There comes a time when we must stand together to help and support one another, and Christmas is one of those times. Whether at home or abroad, here is a useful list of charities you can donate to or volunteer with right now to help make a positive difference to the lives of others over the Christmas period. If you do one good thing today, make it this.

Help The Homeless

The Peter McVerry Trust opens doors for homeless people in Dublin city.

The Capuchin Day Centre feeds more than 1,400 daily. Father Kevin at The Capuchin Day Center ensures that nobody goes hungry on Dublin’s streets.

SVP is the largest voluntary charitable organisation in Ireland. SVP works hard within communities to alleviate and end poverty.

Focus Ireland is fighting to get every child and their families off of the streets for Christmas.

Cork Penny Dinners– The amazing staff at Cork Penny Dinners help to feed over 1,000 people in Cork every day.

The Simon Community works to prevent and address homelessness in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath.

Help Fight Addiction

Merchants Quay provide life-changing services for people fighting addiction and homelessness.

The Ana Liffey Drug Project is a free addiction service that helps reduce harm and drug use in Dublin, Limerick and the wider community.

The Rise Project works to support families and friends of those suffering addiction.

Help To Protect Women

Women’s Aid is fundamental to protecting women against domestic violence.

The Abortion Rights Campaign provides national support for a referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment to ensure the health and rights of women in pregnancy are protected in line with international human rights standards.

Helping Handbags helps women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to access feminine hygiene and sanitary products.

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre provides 24-hour service for victims of rape and fight to end sexual violence in Ireland

The Women’s Council Of Ireland has been improving the lives of women in Ireland for 40 years.

Protect Our Furry Friends

The DSPCA fight for animal welfare and rehome thousands of animals each year.

The Dogs Trust want the best for every dog in Dublin. They provide rehoming services, microchipping, neutering – the lot.

Little Hill Animal Rescue is a magnificent rescue sanctuary for animals who have experienced truly awful abuse. They also save thousands of hens from slaughterhouses every year.

Stand With LGBTI+ Communities

Belong To stand up against and protect members of the LGBTI+ communities from bullying.

LGBT Ireland listens in confidence and without judgement, seven days a week.

The Outhouse is a community and resource centre for LGBTI+ people, their families and friends. They provide a safe space for people to inform, meet, organise and make things happen.

Make An Elderly Person’s Life Better

Friends Of The Elderly help build relationships and companionships for members of the community without family.

Alone raises awareness about the challenges and issues that vulnerable older people face as they age.
