Ireland is the place to be in September for a showcase of innovative international ceramics?

It’s been a busy and exciting summer for ceramics in Ireland, from the graduate show at the National Craft Gallery to China’s famous Terracotta Army at the Ambassador Theatre, but if you’re the kind to get all fired up about clay, some of the best is yet to come!

You can still catch the last day of the annual Ceramics Festival in Thomastown, Co Kilkenny, which has been building momentum nicely for the inaugural visit of the International Academy of Ceramics to Ireland.

Running from tomorrow, September 8, until Friday 12, this will be the 46th general assembly, pulling members of the International Academy of Ceramics from across the globe for a three-day international conference, a Members? Exhibition featuring 160 pieces of work, and a series of exhibitions in the grounds of Dublin Castle from countries as diverse as South Korea, China, Croatia and Norway.

The accompanying Dublin Craft Trail – which has been specially produced by the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCoI) to coincide with IAC2014 – will also include extensive exhibitions presenting Irish and international ceramics as well as a wide range of other contemporary crafts. And if do you head down there, don’t forget to send us your cool craft pics on Facebook and Twitter!
