Fashion is cyclical certainly, but some items are always more in vogue?than others. We’ve picked four key items from the SS16 collections that will absolutely warrant the extra space in your wardrobe.
A?WHITE SHIRT
At Zac Posen (pictured), Joseph and Delpozo, white shirts were reimagined with asymmetric detailing, oversized collars and cuffs and cut-out detailing. Never has this simple closet staple caused such a fashion stir. Given the variety of options available now, it’s the perfect time to buy that definitive white shirt you’ll wear and love forever. This chic draped version?from Cos is top of my shopping list this month.

A?BACKPACK
The collegiate-style?carry-all?has moved far beyond its utilitarian origins. Zips, buckles and hardware still apply, but designers such as Maison Margiela (pictured) have given the backpack a ladylike?update for SS16. This is an ideal buy for women on the go. It leaves you hands-free to juggle children, iPads, phones, groceries, or whatever. Plus, the mini versions look equally good handheld for evening. Stella McCartney’s electric blue backpack is a beautiful and practical choice, and will add a cool colour pop to any outfit.

BLACK TAILORING
We’re not saying black is back, we’re saying it never went away. Everyone’s favourite neutral had a strong presence on the SS16 catwalks. Christopher Kane and Chloe (pictured), among others, used it as?the perfect antidote to fresh florals and feminine boudoir dressing. Invest in something fluid and tactile – silks, sheers and lace feel right for the season. Head-to-toe black looks a little heavy, so if a blast of colour is not for you, wear with a softer neutral such as biscuit or oatmeal instead. This Victoria Beckham wrap top will work for every season.

A WRAP SKIRT
Sophisticated, chic, office-appropriate but with a little bit of sex appeal too, wrap skirts are a style saviour. Less rigid?than pencil skirts, but smarter and less girlish than pleated or full, they should be a closet staple all year round. Michael Kors (pictured) presented his in a buttery shade of suede – divine. This Marks & Spencer leather wrap skirt is one of the best on the high street right now.
