Everything We Know About Season 2 Of The Crown

Everything We Know About Season 2 Of The Crown

Your next Netflix binge is mere weeks away; season two of the award-winning The Crown will premiere on December 8th. Jennifer McShane looks ahead to the anticipated lavish series.

THE PLOT

While the first season of The Crown chronicled the adult life of Queen Elizabeth II (played to a tee with an award-winning performance by Claire Foy), from her 1947 marriage onwards, the new series promises to introduce some of the more interesting threads of the Monarch to light. Yes, season one focused on Elizabeth’s life as she was forced to take the throne after the sudden’death of her father, King George VI and the next season begins 10 years later.

The Queen will be at the heart of the story, as will her often tempestuous marriage to Prince Phillip as the sixties begins. We’ll also get a glimpse of the romance between the Queen’s sister Princess Margaret and her husband, Lord Snowdon, who was Antony Armstrong-Jones. Snowden passed away earlier this year and was said to have had an “extraordinarily complex love life” with his affairs known both before and after his marriage to the princess in 1960. “Snowdon was the first commoner in four centuries to marry a British monarch’s daughter and is everything the palace isn’t: seductive, dangerous, risque,” according to Peter Morgan, writer of The Crown.

THE TRAILERS

There’s a few circulating the web and each offers an exciting glimpse into the new series:

THE CAST

There’ll  be some new faces: including Matthew Goode as the Earl of Snowdon, the first husband of Princess Margaret (played by Vanessa Kirby), and Michael C Hall (of Dexter) and Jodi Balfour as the Kennedys. This season will be the last time we see Foy and Matt Smith reprise their leading roles, as the brilliant Olivia Colman has been revealed as Foy’s successor for season three. This is a natural progression as upcoming seasons of the drama will chronicle a later period in The Queen’s reign.

WHEN WE CAN WATCH IT

The Crown Season 2 premieres on December 8th on Netflix – we can’t wait.
