The sun can never be relied upon in Ireland, but you can create the feeling of a desert paradise by taking inspiration from the unique interiors of Palm Springs Modernism.

The influence of Modernist architecture can be seen across the world, but there are few places where it is so concentrated, and so iconic as in Palm Springs, California. The movement’s open-plan spaces and extensive use of glass was perfect for the landscape, and evolved into its own unique strand of mid-century Modernism.

This distinctive architecture came with a corresponding interior style that still has many fans today. It focuses on clean lines, natural materials and a neutral colour palette with pops of desert-inspired saturated tones. Here are some Palm Springs inspired pieces to recreate this mood in your own home.

Reminiscent of the intense Californian sunshine, the yellow shade of this vase will definitely inject a feeling of warmth into your home. It’s also similar to much of the contemporary glass found in these mid-century homes, as Blenko coloured glassware was extremely popular at the time. Recycled glass vase, €35.99, Zara Home.

Add a pop of sunset colour to your sofa with this geometric cushion, which will banish even the greyest day outside. Stitched squares double-sided cushion, €59, Woo .Design.

One of the pioneers of Modernist architecture, Le Corbusier’s work was hugely influential both to the form that Modernist homes took, as well as the interiors and art within them. This reproduction of a poster from one of his exhibitions in 1956 shows the abstract style that he favoured. Le Corbusier art exhibition poster, €34, PSTR Studio.

To complement the clean lines and open spaces of their structures, mid-century Modernist homes were usually decorated in a pared-back style, favouring neutral shades but prioritising natural textures. This throw features simple shapes and a wonderful tactility, and has the laid-back luxury that this style epitomises. Soft cotton tufted stripes and dot throw, €85.86, Rockett St George.

The gorgeous curves of this lamp show how captivating clean lines can be — no ornate decoration in sight. Whether perched on a coffee table or a sideboard, its understated elegance will draw the eye. Shelter table lamp, €339, BoConcept.

Marrying neutrals with dusty shades, this rug features geometrical shapes but with an organic softness. As it is handmade, each will also have its own natural irregularities, adding a unique touch. Squares Kelim rug, €430, Industry & Co.

It wouldn’t be Palm Springs if you weren’t sipping drinks by the pool, and this carafe with matching tumblers captures the relaxed vibe, even if you’re just sitting on your patio. Clare V. striped glass carafe €55, and tumblers €14 each, Anthropologie.
