Looking for a new project? This month sees the launch of a rake of crafty books, the perfect accompaniment to a cosy evening in. Here are some of our faves.

The book: Hook, Yarn and Crochet by Ros Badger, €15.25
Idea we love: Hands up if you remember those fab granny throws from the 70s and 80s? Retro fascination aside, we love the pop of bright colour against black. If you’ve already tried and tested knitting and sewing then crochet could be your next hurdle – easy, too, as there are 20 projects in this sweet tome.

The book: Creating the Vintage Look?by Ellie Laycock, around €14
Idea we love: The cool kitsch of this tapestry footstool totally won us over. The sweet illustrated step-by-step guides in the book are fab, too.

The book: Liberty Book of Simple Sewing by Liberty?by?Lucinda Ganderton and Christine Leech, €28.60, released September 12th
Idea we love: How chic and adorable would a pooch look in this day bed? Every one of the 25 projects in this book is designed for the novice sewer. Frankly, music to our ears.

The book: Scissors, Paper, Craft?by Christine Leech, photography by Keiko Oikawa, around €15.85

Idea we love: These paper stars are reminiscent of the wooden good-luck symbols found in folk art. They can be made from large sheets of card or offcuts of wallpaper, so you can make them as big as you like.
