Orpens Cider

We’ve always been partial to a glass of cider, especially on a hot summer’s day. But it’s definitely having a moment- especially if it hails from a micro-brewery. IMAGE food writer Claire O’Mahony likes Craigie’s Ballyhook Flyer 2012, made in Wicklow with Dabinett, Katy and Bramley apples. Our friends at Longueville House in Mallow, Co Cork also do a lovely version, using apples from their heritage orchards which are distilled in a shed behind the main house while Orpen’s all-natural number is handcrafted from Golden Delicious and Bramleys. Find a selection of local heroes in Fallon & Byrne’s, The Celtic Whiskey Shop on Dawson Street and Donnybrook Fair.
