Ask The Experts: Winter Hair Colour Trends

In the November issue of IMAGE, on shelves nationwide now, leading Irish hair experts share the AW17 trends to know and the products you’ll need for great winter hair.

“This season’s colour is an exciting mixture of cool and warm tones together over lighter bases. The placement of tones is key, so make sure to ask for colour contouring. We’re also seeing a lot of muted coppers, which always make a play for autumn/winter, but this year some amazing muted tones make them more appealing to a wider range of skin tones. To keep colour from fading, we recommend Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo with antifade complex,€18.90.” – Sharon Sheehan, AC Pure, 051 421288

“What we call a ‘lived-in root’ is a big trend this winter – this is a cool root shade bled out into a warmer, more autumnal colour. Rich auburns are very popular too, and we’re seeing a huge amount of icy blondes coming into winter.” – Paul Hession, Hession Hairdressing, hessionhairdressing.com

“Icy blondes; cream soda blonde (super natural blonde/brunette- think Gigi Hadid) or a bitter chocolate brunette like Kaia Gerber.” – Stephen Boyle, Head Technician at Davey Davey, daveydavey.com

“Cream soda is a colour trend we’ll be seeing a lot more of during the colder months. The beige and warm gold tones means that it’s easily adapted for both blondes and brunettes. Gigi Hadid, Elizabeth Moss and Hailey Baldwin all adopted the trend as their transitional summer-to-winter style. ‘Bronde’ is also back. The dip-dye inspired look sits somewhere between blonde and brunette although more to the latter. The look invokes your natural dark blonde to brunette base and adds lighter bands of colour around the hairline for a face-framing effect. Lily Rose Depp, Jessica Alba and Lea Michele are all fans of the trend.” – Norma-Jean O’Reilly, Senior Stylist and Colourist at Brown Sugar South William Street, brownsugar.ie

“Rich expensive tones, dark chocolate and aubergine browns, burnt coppers, luxurious berries and beige ice cream blondes.” – Darren Lacken, Crow Street Collective, cscollective.ie

“Ash blonde has been a massive trend for ages now. My advice for the winter would be to tone down a little and go for a slightly darker toner all over. If you’re loving your colour, just add a few pieces two shades darker than what you are, to add a little texture. You could do this with some extensions if you didn’t want to actually colour your hair by just adding 10 or 15 extensions in a darker shade! Then if you don’t like it – you can always take them out!” – Katie Jane Goldin, CEO of LanaiBLO, Gold Fever, Instyler and greathairinspiration.com
