Trump’s mugshot
Donald Trump has been arrested at a Georgia jail on racketeering and conspiracy charges and released on a $200,000 bond after having a historic mugshot taken. Accused of colluding with 18 other defendants to overturn the 2020 election result in the southern state, the 77-year-old spent less than 30 minutes inside Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail before leaving in a motorcade for the airport.
Leaving Cert results
Almost 62,000 students are receiving their Leaving Certificate results, which have been artificially boosted by an average of almost 8%. The adjustment has been made following a promise made by Minister for Education Norma Foley that results received by the class of 2023 would be no lower than last year’s. Last year’s marks were artificially increased by an average of 5.6%. This year the average hike is 7.9% and 71% of all grades awarded have risen as a result, compared to 50% last year.

Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales is set to step down today after heavy criticism of his behaviour at the World Cup final in Sydney on Sunday, according to reports in Spain.
First-time buyers
The value of first-time buyer mortgages approved in a 12-month period jumped to €8.4 billion in the year to the end of July. Figures from Banking and Payments Federation Ireland showed the increase brought approvals to the highest annualised level since the data series began. First-time buyer mortgage approvals saw a 22.8 per cent year-on-year increase in terms of volume in July, rising to 29,754, and a 26.7 per cent increase in value.
