Met Éireann issue nationwide weather warning as ‘gale force’ winds expected tonight

The first warning issued for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare and Kerry will come into effect at 7pm and remain in place until 7am tomorrow.

“This evening and overnight, very strong north to northwest winds will reach mean speeds of 60 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 100 to 110 km/hr. Wind speeds may exceed these values at times in exposed coastal areas,” said the national forecaster.

While the warning for all counties in Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford comes into effect at 8pm and will remain in place until 9am tomorrow.

“Heavy showers will continue during this evening and tonight, becoming very windy later this evening and overnight with gale force northerly winds and very strong gusts,” they said of tonight’s expected weather.

Sunday

Tomorrow morning will be windy at first but the winds will gradually ease through the day. Otherwise, tomorrow will be a bright and cold day with further squally showers, with it becoming noticeably colder in the evenings.

Sunday night will be cold with occasional showers – some of which may be prolonged and wintry in northern areas – with lowest temperatures going down to -1 with a sharp frost and icy patches also.
