Having style is like having great wit. It’s a matter of personal philosophy, close to an art form. Meet Optica owner Deirdre McNally, a woman we continuously admire for her inherent flair for dressing and enviable in-built chic.

Essential Accessories

Deirdre McNally, Optica

No one can make spectacles look as sexy and covetable as well as Deirdre McNally, the creative force behind luxury eyewear boutique Optica. Deirdre’s expert discerning taste and accepted style nous has marked Optica as the coolest one-stop destination for eyewear from the moment it opened its door nearly 30 years ago. “My personal style is considered, understated and comfortable,” explains Deirdre.

“My wardrobe is based on items that are almost invisible, clothes that don’t distract me from my work. That I can move easily in and ultimately forget about. But I always think about my eyewear choice first. Whether it’s shape, size or colour. I regard my eyewear as an essential part of my wardrobe as it creates an important first impression. My own eyewear collections, de Siún and Wolfhound Eyewear, are my go-to brands, specifically because they create a strong statement without having to try too hard.”

Her favourite labels are designers whose pieces stand the test of time. From Madigan cashmere knits, to colourful Irish linen scarves from her own brand Wolfhound, to Simone Rocha for an investment buy. Apart from her signature red lipstick, jewellery is also an important addition to her style.

“I am currently collaborating with Helena Malone on some personal pieces of jewellery. They will be a reflection of my taste and style and a fabulous opportunity to be creative in an area that I love. I also choose my jewellery knowing that they become family heirlooms and are always associated with memories. I have pieces from Nigel O’Reilly, Chupi and MoMuse in my collection, and not forgetting John Farrington for something really special!

“I am a fan of fragrance and my choices are very conscious. I feel fragrance adds to your mood and gives a feeling of self-worth. I love Bel Étage from Cloon Keen but also two Memo fragrances, French Leather and Eau de Memo.”
