How Irish hairdresser Andrew Fitzsimons created Camila Cabello’s Met Gala topknot

Met Gala ooh na na.

Soft, tousled and romantic, Camila Cabello’s floral embellished topknot at the Met Gala 2022 was created at the hands of Irish celebrity hairdresser Andrew Fitzsimons, stylist to Kardashians, Jenners and Hadids and the creator of the incredible Andrew Fitzsimons Hair range, available at Boots.

With delicate face-framing tendrils, the twisted messy bun was designed using his own hair range, and detailed with some extra flowers from her upcycled Prabal Gurung gown.

Check out Andrew Fitzsimons’ step-by-step guide to recreating Camila Cabello’s look below.

“The very first step was to dampen Camila’s hair, then I sprayed Andrew Fitzsimons AF1 10-in1 Leave In Conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of her hair. After priming and prepping, I spritzed the Andrew Fitzsimons Model Volume Wave Spray throughout and then diffused her locks to help accentuate her natural waves.

Then I sprayed one of my favorite products, the Andrew Fitzsimons Après Sexe Texture Spray, to achieve loose, touchable texture, giving it a bit of extra hold for an up-do. I gathered the hair with my fingers and pulled and secured it into a high but loose ponytail, spraying a few more spritz of the Andrew Fitzsimons Après Sexe Texture Spray to further help give it that effortless tousled look. I then twisted the pieces of hair into a messy top knot, securing it with pins, maintaining a loose look.

I pulled a few loose strands out to help frame her face, to keep the look soft. When the dress arrived at her room, I saw the beautiful floral components and knew I wanted to work them into her hair in some capacity. I asked Prabal if he had additional flowers I could add to the bun. I tucked the flowers tactfully around the bun, versus over the bun as I was inspired by how the flowers mimicked a “peek-a-boo” effect on the dress itself.

I then set the look with Andrew Fitzsimons Hard Strong Hold Hairspray, and finished off with the Andrew Fitzsimons Prism Shine Invisible Shine Spray for a pop of red carpet shine.”
