#RIPBankBalance: Topshop is coming to ASOS this summer

Following the news that Arcadia Group, the retail empire owned by Sir Philip Green, is planning to close six of its stores in Ireland (along with 17 the UK and all 11 of its stores in the United States) Topshop fans will be thrilled to know that ASOS has announced plans to stock its range

ASOS has announced it be stocking Topshop and Topman products, meaning our bank balances will rapidly dwindle as the summer months go on.

The online retailer announced the news in a tweet earlier today, hinting that the release will be happening later this summer.

“BIG. NEWS,” the tweet began. “TOPSHOP AND TOPMAN ARE COMING TO ASOS. Keep your eyes peeled later this summer!”

It is an interesting and alternative move, considering the recent closure announcements.

What happened?

The Arcadia group had been struggling in recent years to retain the younger consumer. These shoppers were looking online, to websites such as Pretty Little Thing, Missguided and Asos for on-trend pieces (which were sometimes a fraction of the Topshop price). Topshop had remained strong, however, in recent years it too had struggled with the increased volume of online competition. Continued rising rents have also contributed to Arcadia’s financial woes.

Fans of the retailer will have to wait to see exactly what from the range will be stocked but we’re assuming the clothing won’t be one for the ‘serial returners.’
