How to recreate the glossy, lived-in hair at Victoria Beckham AW21

“The hair look really was inspired by the early 90s,” says Victoria Beckham. “I like the idea of quite heavy hair, heavy fringes, that hair that looks like it’s been slept in a little bit, with a little bit of a bend in it.” Here’s how to recreate the lived-in luxe look from her AW21 show.

How to recreate the glossy, lived-in hair at Victoria Beckham AW21

While the knee-high glitter boots and floating floral dresses at Victoria Beckham’s AW21 show are designed for a world without a lockdown, the hair look created with ghd was very much pandemic-inspired.

“This season is our second created in lockdown – we’re good at it now! As much as the collection reflects that, there’s still that sense of surprise and magic that comes with a runway show,” said Victoria Beckham. “There’s a lot of very wearable pieces; denim, knitwear, slouchy tailoring, but there are unexpected elements too, a little nod to the 90s and a real sense of luxury. Now, more than ever women are dressing for themselves, and that’s something I find really inspiring, and exciting.”

”Overall, the hair had to be very natural looking and healthy-looking, with incredible shine. Of course, the times we’re living in have definitely changed attitudes when it comes to hair and beauty. I think we’ve taken the positives from that and used an element of that thinking to inform today’s hair look. It’s a little more relaxed, there’s a sense of ease of wearability. It’s worn but still done. The hair look really was inspired by the early 90s. I like the idea of quite heavy hair, heavy fringes, that hair that looks like it’s been slept in a little bit, with a little bit of a bend in it. We still wanted it to feel like something special, even if it is the sort of look you could achieve yourself.”

Hairdresser Anthony Turner called the look ‘lived-in luxe.’ “The inspiration behind the look is really about celebrating the girl’s individuality by looking at their hair and not really changing it too much,” says Anthony Turner. “It’s a very easy and doable look which is totally achievable at home.’’

To create the lived-in texture and healthy feel, Anthony Turner prepped the hair with two new ghd products, the ghd pick me up root lift spray and the ghd bodyguard heat protect spray.

“The ghd bodyguard spray gives great heat protection and ensures the hair doesn’t get damaged,” says Turner. “The ghd pick me up spray gives that worn in texture. Normally, you might want to use the pick me up spray to get body and volume, but what I have found is that it gives a good ‘day after the night before look’, which is a bit worn in, cooler and a bit surfer-y, and I really enjoy that.”

Next, he dried the styling products into the hair “to give the hair a shiny finish overall.”

Finally, he used the ghd platinum+ styler “to add a bend in the hair and give it a little bit of texture, yet still with a healthy shine. I didn’t use the styler to smooth the hair, but instead to give it a little bit of a wave and to promote natural movement.’’
