From ribbons to sleek ponytails: Hair trends we can’t wait to try in 2020

A new year means a whole new slate for fashion and styling inspiration. 2019 served us well with headbands and the comeback of the humble ponytail. But in 2020, it’s all about pushing these everyday styles to the limit, with added accessories, new styling products and a dash of edge. Serving us up inspiration for 2020 are some of the world’s most renowned stylists: Dylan Bradshaw, Matthew Collins, Jon Reyman and Larry King.

Hair trends we can’t wait to try in 2020

Sleek ponytail

The no-fuss ponytail was all over the 2019 Fall runways at New York Fashion Week. Definitely less maintenance than the Ariana Grande high pony, the sleek low pony allows you to part your hair or frame your face with bangs. Hair stylist Jon Reyman opted to wrap a ribbon around his sleek and straight ponytail for a fun and fresh 2020 take.

Statement accessories

Dolce and Gabbana changed the hair game when it launched its embellished hairbands in 2015. Every designer followed, including Chanel and Burberry, as well as a slew of high-street versions. For a 2020 upgrade, we can’t wait to try jewels along our parting and hairline à la Pixie Lott, as styled by Larry King below.

Crop
The short crop has replaced the 2019 lob for 2020. We’ve been following actress Joey King’s hair transformation from buzz cut, to pixie, to crop. Styled by Matthew Collins, Joey’s sleek bob was held back from her face using bobby pins, with the lengths and ends textured out. We can’t wait to see how she styles up the cut of the moment in the new year.

Hollywood waves

Hollywood glamour never goes out of fashion, but it’s not easy to create Marilyn Monroe waves at home by yourself…. until now. Using the Dyson Airwrap Styler, Dylan Bradshaw shows us how to perfect a red-carpet wave. Dylan recommends using the 30ml barrel in both directions for each side of the head, and brushing the tight curls out with your fingers. A chic party season look we can do at home ourselves? Sold.

Centre parting

According to Dylan, the centre parting trend isn’t going anywhere for 2020. His top tips are to keep the roots sleek by using a mousse, and to comb through to the ends to keep the lengths textured. Fellow Dyson ambassador Larry King perfected the look on actress Ashley Benson, below. We’ll be glued to her Instagram to see how far she takes it in 2020.

The Dyson Airwrap and Dyson Supersonic are available from Dyson.ie. Or find out more in store at Dyson locations in Dundrum Town Centre, Swords Pavillions or Stephens Green, Liffey Valley and Mahon Point shopping centres. Also available in Brown Thomas and Arnotts department stores.
