Intoxicated by the sunshine? Us too. The staffers share their top picks of the beer gardens, sun-soaked terraces and outdoor patios they’ll be spending their summer weekends.

There’s no better summer sunset spot in Dublin than The Rooftop Bar & Terrace at Anantara The Marker and for summer, there’s an incredible new Yucatán-influenced menu inspired by the vibrant flavours of Mexico by Executive Chef Gareth Mullins and Lily Ramirez, plus some delicious new summer cocktails – don’t miss the classic margarita!

The Gravediggers in Glasnevin is my favourite place to have a drink in the sun. Although right next to a literal graveyard, there’s something quite joyous about so many people coming together to have a Guinness – it feels like toasting those who have gone before us. The sun seems to hit every corner there, no matter the time of day, and I just couldn’t think of anywhere better to enjoy a tipple in the sunshine.

Finding the perfect outdoor perch has become something of an obsession for the Digi team in recent weeks. Sitting outside with a thirst-quenching beverage is something we’re apparently very passionate about. Fidelity in Smithfield has become a firm favourite. It’s got a gorgeously intimate speakeasy feel inside (and very, very good music), but feeling the rays on your skin outside as you sip their famous basil margarita is an awfully nice time. I recently tried Barbers close by Smithfield and Stoneybatter, where you can grab some stools and studiously chase the sun around the pavement outside. Two Faced, just off Camden Street, has precious few outdoor seats but if you manage to grab one, it’s the perfect vantage point to sample their ever-rotating wine list. Juno on Dorset Street has a genuinely mouth-watering cocktail menu and finally, Blackbird in Rathmines has my heart. Yes, the beer garden is there, but the stools out the front catch the evening sunshine full force, and it’s very dreamy altogether.

Dublin in the sunshine is divine but chasing a sun trap can be hard! Recently I’ve been enjoying some lovely rosés at Cellar 22. It has a little hidden sun trap and it’s gorgeous. Ivy House is another great spot for catching some rays outside if you’re lucky to get a seat, but if that doesn’t work walk down a little bit further to the Cat & Cage and you’ll find some lovely cosy seats outside.
Another favourite of mine is The Royal Oak near Kilmainham for an ice cold Guinness and toastie. I love a Guinness in The Liberty Belle, located in the heart of Dublin 8. There’s also an app that guides you to track the sunshine in Dublin called Sunnypints. This will tell you in real time where to find a sunny spot and enjoy a pint al fresco of the city.

When the sun is out, I love heading down to The Arch in Dunshaughlin, Co Meath. They have a gorgeous beer garden, with an outdoor bar, tellies and a woodfired pizza hatch – basically everything you need for a day out in the sun. When I’m in Dublin city, I usually try to dip into somewhere less known (as it can get quite busy!) – did you know The George has a small beer garden? They also have great deals on drinks and cocktails so it’s a perfect place to go with the girls.

There’s nothing better than an iced matcha in the sun, and there is nowhere better than MELO in Castleknock to soak up some sunshine. Their outside area literally doubles the size of the coffee shop and is the epitome of a suntrap, an absolute summer gem. A little outside Dublin but in my personal opinion the best place for a sunny day drink is Brady’s in Maynooth. Their outdoor seating area is packed full of benches and tables, so it’s the absolute perfect spot for a chilled Aperol Spritz in the sun.
