These unusual homes are all under €450,000, and include a former post office, a town-centre cottage, and a terraced home with eye-catching interiors.

Sometimes, scrolling through homes for sale can leave you a little uninspired, and I don’t just mean by the high prices. So many homes on the market are totally bland, to the point where sometimes you’re not sure if you’ve seen a house before, or just one that was very similar.

However, these three homes are nothing if not unique: offering something different, each in their own way.

4 Harold Road, Stoneybatter, Dublin 7, €440,000

The two-bedroom terraced home in Stoneybatter offers a clue to its bold interiors with its vibrant purple front door, but you will probably still be surprised at what awaits inside. The inside space has been reconfigured and extended, and finished with plenty of quirky interiors choices.

The chimney breast has been decorated in 3D tiles, there’s a colourful mural on the garden wall, and the colourful bathroom certainly makes an impact.

The home featured as a finalist on RTE’s Home of the Year in 2019, and is full of clever small-space ideas, including a desk tucked in under the stairs, and the washer and dryer are housed outside, saving valuable kitchen space.

The Old Post Office, Church Cross, Skibbereen, West Cork, €350,000

This beautiful old building is a former post office, and is full of character. Two front doors seem to denote what was the post office, and its adjacent residence, while details like timber windows and doors are in keeping with the house.

Inside, the main rooms are well sized, with three bedrooms and a large garden that leads down to a river. There is also an impressive, distinctive Cypress tree at the front of the house.

Cois Farraige, 2 Quay Street, Skerries, Co Dublin, €395,000

If you love the idea of living in a cottage, but the rural life isn’t for you, then you might like this town centre cottage in Skerries. Although it has been extended to add more space, it still retains its cottage proportions and character.

Situated in the heart of Skerries, it’s also within walking distance of many shops and restaurants, not to mention the sea front, which is just metres away.
