Though Christmas is a time that many look forward to, reveling in the lights, the festive spirit and the presents, for some, it's a time of year when their problems are merely amplified. Well aware that this is the case for many, Tesco are tapping into their well of goodwill to raise €100,000 to help buy life-saving medical equipment for Temple Street. As for how they'll reach this ambitious target, well it's a rather sweet idea.
In a bid to create a new family tradition this Christmas, Tesco shoppers are encouraged to purchase a pouch of reindeer food for just €2, the proceeds of which will go towards the hospital. Designed to guide Santa's reindeer towards your house, each pouch of food contains a mixture of oats (reindeer love oats you see) and sparkles, which are to be sprinkled on your lawn on Christmas Eve.
Sure to become a magical Christmas Eve moment, Tesco delved a little deeper into the various traditions of Irish families. A survey of over 1,000 families revealed that 75% leave milk and cookies out on Christmas Eve; 72% never forget to leave carrots out for Rudolph; a considerate 10% pen a 'thank you' letter to the man himself while 14% of kids make sure that Santa has a pint of Guinness to enjoy each year. As for Santa's entry point into each house, 71% confirmed he arrives down the chimney while 21% say he simply 'magic's his way' inside. 4% have no time for magic, insisting that he enters through the front door, obviously.
"Sprinkle on the lawn, magic will make it sparkle bright,
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam, this will guide them to your home."
The Magical Reindeer Food Fundraiser will be taking place in all 149 Tescos this Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December from 11 am - 6 pm.
