3 Contemporary Irish Knitwear Designers To Try This Autumn

Ireland is an exciting place to be a?knitwear designer. There is the abundance of natural, Irish materials and resources available, a raw, unfiltered landscape for endless inspiration, and, of course, the perfect weather to accompany a snug and warm jumper. While it’s easy to buy from fast fashion from the high street, it’s a truly special experience to buy a bespoke piece of knitwear that has been sourced and made directly in Ireland by talented designers. Here are three beautiful Irish knitwear designers to try and love this winter season.

Janet Byrne Knitwear

In between being a busy mum of seven, designer Janet Byrne beautifully crafts a stunning selection of elegant knitwear. Ranging from oversized pullovers to multiway shawls (like this stunning soft pink one below) in the softest lambswool, her pieces are as stunning to look at as they are to wear. The multiway shawl is the perfect substitute for a winter-jacket, and, alternatively,?will add sophisticated glamour to any evening event or soiree.

Sarah Murphy Knitwear

Sarah Murphy has been stitching (!) her way to the top since graduating from fashion design at Griffith College, Dublin. Her designs are striking, contemporary and are usually bright in colour with intricate detailing and patterns.? Often, Sarah incorporates modern and unusual finishes to traditional knitted patterns, resulting in striking and contemporary final product.

Aisling Duff Design

Aisling Duff is another recent fashion graduate from NCAD and uses technically challenging techniques like wrapping and folding to achieve her striking finishing looks.?Taking inspiration from rural Ireland, nature, honey, bees, and soft colour pallets, her dreamy creations play with form and interchangeability.
