Can you believe that we have another bank holiday? Our next isn’t until August, so make sure to get out with the kids and make the most of it. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best family-friendly events going on around the country…
Ratoath Village, Co. Meath, May 30- June 2
Does anything sound better than seeing 2,000 pet dogs of all breeds and sizes while the kids can stay occupied with pony rides, bouncy castles and carnival rides?
Tattersalls Horse Trials & Country Fair are holding this exciting event until this Sunday, June 2 in Tattersalls farm just outside Ratoath Village, Co. Meath.
You can bring your own pooch too, and they may even get a prize! The categories are most waggly tail, best fancy dress, best party trick, best senior dog, best small dog, best Medium dog and best Large dog.
This event is definitely one to attend if you’re an animal lover as the dog show will run alongside the international equestrian action. This includes 330 horses and riders from 14 countries in what is one of the World’s most thrilling and difficult sporting events.

Powerscourt Demense, Co Wicklow, May 31-June 3
Are your little ones obsessed with space? Or do they just love doing something fun and hands-on? Powerscourt Demense in Co Wicklow are having “Stomp-Rocket” workshops where kids can make their very own colourful rockets that can shoot up to 50m high!
It’s both fun and informative as kids will learn about the link between climate and energy and how clever storage and conversion can deliver clean and free power.
Sessions are an hour long running from 11 am to 1 pm from Saturday to Monday and are €10 per child, they can be bought here.
Dublin, May 28- June 9
Cinemagic will be holding a Film and Television Festival for children and young adults in various locations in Dublin from May 28 – June 9.
On Friday at 7 pm in the Odeon Point Square, Float Like A Butterfly will be played followed by a Q&A with director Carmel Winters. On Sunday at 5 pm a special preview of Metal Heart by director Hugh O’Connor will be played and actress Jordanne Jones will be in attendance.
There will also be screenings of new short animations designed for younger kids, movie screenings for older children, and new family films.

Wexford, May 31- June 3
It’s all fun and strawberry celebrations in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford this bank holiday weekend as its the 52nd Strawberry fair. It’s also 850 years since the Normans invaded Ireland on the shores of Wexford, so this bank holiday there will be a Norman invasion once again. There will be storytelling sessions on the roof of Enniscorthy Castle, Norman shield making, a Norman Living History Camp, and characters from children’s fairytales.

Hook peninsula, Wexford, June 1-3
Staying the Wexford, Hooked on the Sea festival is back this year in the Hook peninsula. It will host a variety of marine-themed events for all ages. Tickets are €35 per person which includes a guided tour of the 800-year-old lighthouse followed by a meal of locally caught fresh fish and chips. There will also be a drinks reception of local craft beers and wines.
Kids are invited to go dressed as a pirate where there will be prizes and piratey fun and games with Pirate Hook, Pat and Pearl on the lighthouse lawns.
Entertainment will be on offer from Pirate Hook, Pat and Pearl with games on the lighthouse lawns.

Cork, June 1-9
If you’re living in Cork or fancy taking a trip there this bank holiday, the Cork Harbour Festival is a great place to take the family.
It’s a week-celebration of unique maritime heritage, set in the second largest natural harbour in the world.
This year’s festival will have 70+ events including a rowing and paddling race, a Cork City to Cobh harbour tour and a ‘circus-like a pirate’ event.
