What To Do Today: Your IMAGE Guide To The Weekend

Be Outstraight Here

Experience the Outstriaght spoken work and graffiti jam tomorrow at The Bernard Shaw as park of the First Fortnight festival – a festival dedicated to challenging mental health stigma through creative arts. The free event will see some of Dublin’s greatest emerging artists from spoken word and graffiti including?Lewis Kenny and Ailish Kerr (spoken word), and?Vents, Exist, and Bueno (graffiti). This is a free event and people will be able to enjoy free masterclasses and poetry writing throughout the day. Outstriaght kicks of at 1pm to 5pm with’music and food continuing afterwards.

As part of Dublin’s Bowie Fest there are a number of special Bowie-related events around the city this weekend (can it be like this every weekend?). The Light House Cinema are holding a?’special?anniversary tribute screening of the magnificent V&A Museum exhibition film “David Bowie Is…” on Tuesday, January 10th, at 9pm.?Tickets are priced at €15 for adults and €12 for a child and can be booked here.

Dance For Choice Here

This coming Friday, January 13th,?Mother, District 8, Hidden Agenda and the Repeal Project are teaming up for a big ‘Dance for Choice fundraiser’ to raise money to go towards the coalition to Repeal the 8th. Their aim is to raise €10,000 so are bringing together some of the countries best DJ’s?and performers. There will also be a competition on the night to win?a repeal jumper, bag, hat and limited edition print to three lucky disco dancers. Early bird tickets from €10 and can be bought here.

Enjoy Mindfulness With Your Children Here

Teach your children the joy of relaxing and mindfulness this new year with an afternoon of specially-tailored mindfulness classes tomorrow, Sunday, January 8th. Taking place at Oscailt Integrative Healing Centre in Donnybrook, Dublin 4 from 2 – 4:30, it’s an opportunity to learn simple mindful practices through sitting, walking and games, and learn to take care of difficult emotions.
