Flame-haired fashion visionary Grace Coddington has released her first-ever brand advertising campaign for Tiffany & Co since becoming creative director-at-large for American Vogue. Coddington dedicated nearly 50 years – 28 years at American Vogue?with 21 years as creative director and 20 years at Vogue UK – before deciding to branch out on her own. Her campaign?has the Coddington stamp throughout; it’s classic with a contemporary twist and visually striking.
The faces of The Legendary Style campaign?includes enigmatic portraits with Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong?o, actress Elle Fanning, as well as models Christy Turlington Burns and Natalie Westling and now we get a glimpse into the creative process behind it, thanks to a new short film, starring Coddington and directed by filmmaker R.J. Cutler, director of the brilliant and award-winning The September Issue (in which the fashion editor became what she terms an “accidental celebrity”).
Shot over several months, the film gives the viewer a behind-the-scenes look at Coddington’s home studio, photo shoots and closed-door meetings documenting the creative process as she attempts to give Tiffany a refreshed aesthetic. ?Blue is a very extraordinary colour,? she said. ?I always say ?why do I love New York?? It’s because the sky is always blue. It’s an extraordinary city because it is old, and also incredibly new. In a funny kind of way, that’s the way you can describe Tiffany.? It is, as ever, fascinating to get a glimpse into the mind of this legendary?fashion icon.
