This J.K. Rowling Letter is Lovely

J.K. Rowling is a saint. This letter she sent to a Harry Potter fan is beatific proof.

Not only has she given so much of her fortune to charity that she’s fallen off the Forbes billionaire list, she also gave this amazing speech at Harvard a few years ago.

Best quote to tattoo on your brain from the whole thing? ?And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.? Now this viral letter she wrote to a fan is just confirming again what a lovely and inspirational person she is.

Buzzfeed chronicled the beautiful saga, which started over Twitter, here. In short, Johnnie, a Scottish fan, tweeted at J.K. Rowling asking, ?Anyone else feel like an orphaned boy wizard when @jk_rowling tweets other fans but not you??

J.K. responded with a joke about Dobby. The two met at a book signing and Johnnie gave his heroine a specially designed notebook with a letter inside saying how Harry Potter got him through a difficult bout of bullying. A few months later Johnnie got this letter, where Rowling sorted him into Gryffindor and said she loathed bullying and the way schools often handle it.

Dear Johnny,

You have fantastic handwriting. That’s not the most important thing I’ve got to say to you, but I thought I’d mention it – I’m a connoisseur.

On to more important things:

What you say about Harry helping you at what was clearly a dreadful time in your life means more to me than I can easily express. I freely confess that I loathe bullying and the way it is still so often “handled” in schools.

Your experience is shocking and disturbing and that you have turned out to be a compassionate, moral, highly motivated person is high testimony to your courage. Gryffindor for you, my lad…

Thank you so much for the stunningly beautiful notebook. I love it.

This letter seems to be a series of non-sequiturs, but why break the pattern: I have family roots in Ayrshire – Arran, to be precise. And I’ve never been there. Embarrassing, isn’t it? Don’t tell the Nationalists. I’m sure we’ll see each other again. In the meantime, I’ll watch out for you on Twitter.

Love from Jo

How heartwarming is all of that? Don’t know about you, but we’re collectively bawling.
