The young creatives on our radar now are an inspiring mix of women determined to explore and enjoy their art. CLAIRE O?MAHONY meets these future makers.

A?INE CAHILL SINGER/SONGWRITER

Last year could be regarded as an epic one for 22-year-old singer/songwriter A?ine Cahill. Her Glastonbury debut was critically acclaimed; she took Electric Picnic by storm; and she played to a 15,000-strong Dublin crowd just before Christmas. The portents for 2017 are equally good, following the rapturous response to her recent single, ?Plastic?. Musically, her style can best be described as pop with a jazzy vibe.

It is very modern, but also has some elements that are kind of throwback. I think my vocals and melodies bring that jazz feel to everything,? she explains. ?I always sing smooth smoky jazz in the shower or when I’m feeling down. I find it so emotional – there’s something about the melodies. I love it… can’t even describe how much.? The Cavan-born rising star begins a mini tour of Ireland, starting in Dublin in The Sugar Club on April 20, and she’s racking up the festival bookings, then it’s into the studio to complete some tracks with a new EP release planned.

?I’m just so excited for this year,? A?ine says, and not without good reason. ainecahill.com
