The Feel Good Factor – Cora Murphy

The wonderful Cora Murphy, founder of clinically-led homecare business The CARE Team has just been shortlisted for IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year 2014. We caught up with her to talk about getting sick loved ones home and out of hospital, keeping spirits high and the ever important ?feel good factor?.

What inspired you to set up The CARE Team?

 

As a nurse I have worked in both the hospital and community environment. Caring for patients at home is so different. As a nurse you have time to spend getting to know your patient, their family and all the dynamics that go with life.? After working in other homecare organisations we identified a niche in the market for a more clinically led homecare offering with a range of professional services.

 

Why do you feel The CARE Team is so important?

 

The Care Team is the first home health care company to provide comprehensive care packages to people at home. Our patients could have a nurse, carer, physiotherapist or a speech and language therapist come into their home in one day. Our aim is to rehabilitate patients back to a capacity where they will have a quality of life or help them to stay at home while living with a chronic illness. We have definitely set the tone for the future of community care in Ireland. It’s all about getting people out of hospital and if needed replicating that environment at home.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to get involved in homecare industry?

 

You need to be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. You need to be compassionate and have the ability to care for people. Also, having a great sense of humor is a must. Sick patients need people who are going to lift their spirts and introduce the? feel good factor?.
