MET Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for all counties in Ireland. Heavy rain and strong winds are currently sweeping the country.
A status yellow wind warning is in place for all of Leinster; as well as Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal. Forecasters have said southeasterly winds will reach average speeds of 50 to 65km/h; with strong gusts of 90 to 110km/hr. These gusts are expected to exceed these values in exposed coastal areas and on higher ground, especially in the southeast. MET Éireann says this warning is in place until 7 pm this evening.

A status yellow wind warning has also been issued in Munster and Connacht, though the severe weather is expected to ease here by 3 pm. Forecasters have asked people in exposed coastal areas to be particularly cautious, as some gusts may exceed 110 km/hr.
Lastly, a status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for the entire country. MET Éireann has said, “Heavy rain will lead to accumulations of around 25 to 40mm, but may exceed these limits in mountainous areas.”
AA Roadwatch has asked drivers to be particularly careful while driving today. “Be aware that stopping distances are longer in wet conditions,” they said, adding, “only drive through water if you know it is not too deep for your car.”
“Drive slowly through high water in a low gear, and test your brakes as soon as you get out of the water.
“In high winds, allow a large gap between you and other vehicles. Give a wide berth to cyclists, pedestrians and motorcyclists, and look out for wind-blown debris. High-sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on exposed roads,” they said.
