On Thursday, April 6th,?guests and makeup and beauty buffs were invited to meet beauty guru and Guardian Weekend columnist Sali Hughes, as she shared her top product picks and genius beauty tips at Arnotts Style Sessions.

The full house at the Beauty Hall at Arnotts was thrilled to get a chance to pick the brains, so to speak,?of beauty guru and writer Sali Hughes. She was in town to deliver a makeup masterclass hosted by IMAGE editor-in-chief Melanie Morris. The jam-packed Makeup Secrets Masterclass was the second of the hugely successful Arnotts Style Sessions held last week. Beauty maestro Hughes kept the eager audience enthralled as she spoke of her hero products, beauty secrets and life lessons during the hour-long masterclass.

Brimming with excitement and enthusiasm, Sali told the room full of packed listeners of her journey through beauty; starting when she was a young girl with a dream of becoming a journalist and a passion for beauty and fashion, to a present day beauty professional with over thirty years experience in both industries. After achieving her goal of becoming a journalist, Sali admitted she struggled to combine her two passions together due to the stigma surrounding the beauty industry, but she persevered: “It’s entirely possible to be an intelligent woman and love all things beauty.”

Next, Sali took us through her life-long hero products including YLS Touche Eclat, Chanel No. 5, and MAC Strobe Cream before reiterating that women should embrace their natural beauty and if they want to enhance their look using makeup, that it all begins with good skin and a clean canvas; “I’m more interesting in restoring glow, then restoring time,” she said. Speaking about modern-day beauty and lip fillers, Sali also’stressed that younger generations shouldn’t be compelled by celebrities to buy makeup products that deliver unrealistic expectations. “I wish celebrities would stop using lip fillers and pretending they’re not,” a statement met by a round of applause from the audience.

Moving onto makeup and ageing, Sali recommends investing in a foundation that provides more coverage but has light reflectors for a healthy glow and suggested buying?Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream or MAC Face & Body Foundation.

Before taking questions from eager fans, Sali ended on a high note explaining how her love of perfume brought her together with her soon-to-be husband, who had recognised the smell of her perfume the moment they met. The rest is history, as they say, and Sali is due to wed later this year.

And the end of an entertaining and informative beauty session guests walked away armed with gorgeous goodie bags and extra insights – another plus was that all attendees could shop in Arnotts every product mentioned bySali during the masterclass – ‘ready to put into practice at home.
