Setting The Mood: 3 Tablespaces For A Winter Gathering

The darker nights of December are nearly upon us and they offer a good excuse to lingering dinner with friends, lit in pools of candlelight. Even if you’re not yet ready to celebrate the festive season with reds and greens, there’s no excuse for not welcoming some old friends or new, with these three scene-setting themes.

Keep it simple with natural linens, loads of candles and highlights of metallics. All you need to do then is send the invites, light the fire, and set the table.

The New Modern

Create a moody table with highlights of metal set against dark linens. Photography by Rocky Luten, Food52.

Oleanna dessert plate, € 19, Anthropologie / Light grey linen napkin, €20, The Blue Door / Patterned mug, €4.99, H&M Home / Fulltalig candlesticks, €12 for a set of three, Ikea

Celebrate Nature

Celebrate our natural world with a nature inspired festive table, paring greens with black  and finish with quirky animal name holders.

Pine needles print tablecloth, €19.99, H&M Home / Washed Linen napkin, €19, Linum / Black porcelain plate, €2.99, H&M home / Tree butter knife, €19, April and the Bear / Animal placecard holders,  €45 for 6, Anthropologie

Romantic Retro

Set the party scene with a retro garland made with girly pink, grown-up grey and some metalics. Easy to make, cut tissue paper into strips, twist together and tie to a string. Photography by Mark Weinberg, Food52.

Flimra wine glass, €2.50, Ikea / Grooved glass vase jug, €15, Homelust / Pack of 4 forks, €9.99, H&M Home / Floral fauna candle holder, from €45, Anthropologie
