Scintillating September

After a summer full of outdoor concerts, plays and festivals, we retreat indoors for even more culture. Artsy types and little culture vultures are going to have a busy September, with three major cultural festivals kicking off this month:

A Girl is a Half-formed Thing

An adaption for the stage of the award-winning novel by Eimear McBride, directed by Annie Ryan.

Twelfth Night or What You Will

2 September | Smock Alley Theatre

Supported by Stephen Fry, Sir Ian McKellen and the RSC, Liverpool’s award winning Purple Coat Productions bring Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night on a tour of Ireland.

Phelim Drew’s Down and Out in Paris and London

From September 9 | Bewley’s Cafe Theatre

A dark and funny one-man show based on George Orwell’s experiences in Paris and London.

Camille O’Sullivan 20th Anniversary Show

11 and 12 September | Meeting House Square

The chanteuse celebrates 20 years in the business of cabaret with favourite songs from Brel to Radiohead.

Tanya Tagaq in concert with Nanook of the North

7 September | Meeting House Square

A mesmerising vocal performance by the Canadian Inuit throat singer accompanying the silent film Nanook of the North.

A delightful non-verbal performance told with clay.

PERFORMANCE

Harp – A River Cantata

6 September | Samuel Beckett Bridge

A triumphant opening weekend celebration for the Tiger Dublin Fringe, this is a large-scale outdoor performance turning the Samuel Beckett Bridge into Ireland’s largest musical instrument.

Downstairs Dublin Culture Night 2014

19 September | Merrion Square

A series of talks, installations, projections and pop up events curated by the Irish Times in the outside basement spaces in Merrion Square.
