Ryan Reynolds Reaches Out To Young Fan With Cancer

We’ve always had a soft spot for Ryan Reynolds. Maybe it was The Proposal and that final scene where he professes his love to Sandra Bullock’s steely boss. (That isn’t a spoiler IMHO.) Or was it his turn as a single dad in the underrated romantic comedy Definitely, Maybe? Perhaps the way he talks about his daughter James is what lights our goodwill fire. Whatever reason, we’ve got a good feeling about the guy. Which has been confirmed a thousand times over after we read about how he reached out to a young Deadpool fan who has cancer.

The actor posted a photo to his Facebook page on Friday, with a story beneath that has tugged at all the heartstrings and is a great example of how a celebrity can use their profile for good.

The fan in question was a young Canadian Connor McGrath, who Reynolds claims is ?possibly the biggest #Deadpool fan on earth.? Connor was the first person to see the Deadpool movie, Reynolds claimed, before going on to draw parallels between Connor’s battle against the illness and that of the movie’s protagonist. In Deadpool, Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, a former soldier who undergoes dangerous treatment to rid his body of cancer.

Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls. This is my friend, Connor McGrath. He’s quite possibly the biggest #Deadpool fan on…

Connor’s family are currently fundraising for an experimental treatment to help Connor fight leukemia, which he was diagnosed with in 2013. He relapsed last year and his response to chemo hasn’t been effective.

Reynolds wrote on Facebook:

?About 6 weeks ago, I traveled to Edmonton Alberta to show Connor the movie at his hospital. Of course, the Deadpool was right up his alley because Connor’s the funniest, potty-mouthed Canadian mercenary I’ve ever met.

He’s my friend. I know lots of celebrities jump up and down touting a cause — and maybe I’m no different. But holy frozen shit-slivers, I love this kid. He’s the GREATEST. And he needs your help to get well. I’ve donated to help Connor and I hope you will too.?

Reynolds then posted a link to the fundraising page: youcaring.com
