Prepare for some serious interiors envy and inspiration thanks to our latest Instagram takeover. Roisin Lafferty, founder of Kingston Lafferty Design,’documented her trip to?Maison et Objet, one of Europe’s most?important design fairs, and gave us a?first look at the latest?trends from the most innovative brands.
1. Marquetry mastery
The intricate skill of marble marquetry is having a revival. This technique involves taking the thinnest layers of marble and stone (similar to timber veneers) and inlaying them to create detailed patterns.?The lightweight quality of the finish gives the same beauty as solid marble but without the weight.?It can be used?to create individual art pieces or furniture. I particularly loved the more dramatic furniture elements with strong contrasting colours for luxe interiors.
2. Hanging around
The trend of bringing your exterior in has been around for some time but interior planting isn’t going anywhere! In fact, this trend has developed further focusing now on all things hanging.?Hanging plants of different varieties could be found in baskets, cages, woven hangers to name but a few. And it is all about scale and quantity with this one… the bigger the better with trellis trailing plants featuring prominently.?Gone are the flowers and blooms, it is greenery taking this trend to new heights.
3. Wonder walls
Why have bare plaster when there are so many exciting alternatives? The sky is the limit with wall cladding options but it comes down to personal preference.?From parquet concrete, 3D triangular panels to textured timber walls and intricate panelling profiles, its time to get cladding. These can be expensive so choose wisely.?Sometimes one wall is enough and can add the right amount of texture, depth and drama to your room.
4. Tactile textures
As well as looking good, your interiors should feel good. We are seeing more experimentation with fabrics and textures, using materials in new and creative ways especially with armchairs.?Comfort is key with these as we get ready to curl up for the winter months. Think shaggy wools, thick pile textures, furry felts and furs, offering something that is both playful and functional.
5. Organic ceramics
Ceramics are more striking than ever this season. It is all about the beautifully imperfect organic shapes and matte finished with dusty, earthy tones.?These pieces feel more like decorative art pieces than traditional, functional crockery and are guaranteed to impress at any dinner party. Layer up different tones of colour for visual impact. Mix and match with colours and sizes.
6. Monochromatic madness
Always a classic, monochrome interiors are as timeless as the little black dress in fashion. And if any city lives by this trend, it is Paris! Monochrome floors, tables, wallpapers, geometric tiles and light fittings were on show.?Invest in monochromatic flooring for longevity and layer up colours and brass details for a sophisticated feel.
7. Cork collections
A tactile material that is hard-wearing, comfortable and unexpected. Cork was displayed in fun and creative ways both as furniture pieces and home accessories.?It gives your interior a very natural feel and works well with indoor planting and earthy, rustic spaces or in contrast to more opulent interiors.
8. Deep sea teal
Blues have been a trend for the past few seasons but now it is all about rich green/blue tones to create the perfect teal colour.?This jewel tone is extremely versatile and works beautifully with most colours. Its richness has an air of sophistication and opulence and it works particularly well in a lacquered finish.
