With just a few months to go until Princess Beatrice marries Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, the Queen has finally confirmed the locations of both the wedding and reception
Princess Beatrice, who is ninth-in-line to the throne, became engaged to her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in September 2019. The pair first met one another a year previously and shared an instant spark – so it came as no surprise when the multi-millionaire popped the question in Italy (and even less of a surprise when Beatrice said yes).
On the announcement of their engagement, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo released a statement which read, “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.
“We share so many similar interests and values,” they added, “and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”
Now, as their big day approaches, the Queen has given permission for the wedding to take place in the Chapel Royal at St James’ Palace in London. A statement shared via the royal family’s social channels said, “The wedding of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will take place on Friday, May 29 2020.”
It continued, “The Queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace. The ceremony will be followed by a private reception, given by The Queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.”
The Chapel Royal, while steeped in history, is still a busy working chapel and is often open to the public for religious services. Many private services have taken place here too, such as the christenings of Prince William’s sons Prince George and Prince Louis. Further back on the timeline, the Chapel Royal hosted the wedding of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1840, as well as the wedding of their eldest daughter in 1858.
Speaking about their daughter’s upcoming wedding, Princess Beatrice’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of York said, “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.
“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”
