Prince William and Kate Middleton have just landed in Ireland, kicking off their three-day visit
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touched down in an Aer Lingus plane at Dublin Airport at approximately 1 pm, where they were greeted by the British ambassador to Ireland, Robin Barnett. The pair appeared happy and fresh-faced as they stepped down onto the tarmac, waving to the awaiting press before taking off in a private Range Rover.
This is the couple’s first visit to Ireland, coming 18 months after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip in July 2018.
Kate arrived in Dublin in a green coat by Catherine Walker & Co, and a dress from Alessandra Rich’s SS20 collection (with her hair perfectly blow-dried as always). Meanwhile, William opted for a dark tailored suit and coat (essential when braving the cold winds today).
This royal visit, which was confirmed by Kensington Palace in February at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will last for three days. During this time, both Prince William and Kate will visit counties Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Galway, highlighting the many strong links between the UK and Ireland (all the while taking in the sights).
Right now, the royal couple is en route to Áras an Uachtaráin to meet with President Michael D Higgins. They will then meet with the outgoing Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, before attending a special reception at the Guinness Storehouse later tonight.
Between today and Thursday, the pair will attend an impressive 13 events. Not only will they learn about local organisations working to support and empower young people, but also various projects which provide opportunities to help young people develop important life skills. William and Kate will also hear more about Ireland’s conservation initiatives and efforts to protect its environment, with a particular focus on sustainable farming and marine conservation.
