New Season Wish List

by Rosie McMeel
04th Aug 2016

It’s August, which in my world means the team and I are almost finished the September issue. Working on this particular edition of IMAGE can be detrimental to an editor’s bank balance because we’re previewing the new collections and curating the very best of what’s available in store. Temptation waits on every page. Here is a glimpse of my new season wish list, but I should warn you that it’s merely a work in progress?

Directional knitwear from Fintan Mulholland at CREATE, Brown Thomas

Irish design is having a moment. Along with some of my favourites – Simone Rocha, Emma Manley, Louise Kennedy and Peter O’Brien???I look forward to seeing what’s next from emerging designers Fintan Mulholland and Richard Malone, both of whom are currently showcasing at CREATE, Brown Thomas. Investing in Irish design is crucial to the future of the industry and the commercial development of designers so, where budget allows, buying Irish is not just good for your wardrobe, but also the economy. At least that’s how I like to justify a splurge.

Poplin shirt, €39.95 at Zara

According to In’s de la Fressange, the French model and international style icon, every woman should own a blue shirt, because it’s more flattering than white.?I tend to agree, but in an effort to embrace both I’m investing in a blue and white stripe. Crisp, clean and easy to wear, a striped shirt is my new wardrobe hero. Zara have a wide selection on offer this season from fitted and embellished to flowing or flared.

Igor leopard print bag, €895, Jerome Dreyfuss at Costumedublin.ie

So help me, I have a weakness for leopard print. It started a long time ago and despite many efforts to outgrow the affliction, my love for the animal print seems to gather momentum during the winter months. This season I’ve my eye on a?J?r’me?Dreyfuss Igor leopard print bag from Costume. I see the fact that the Dublin boutique has just developed its own website as a sign that this bag wants me back.

Chanel N? 5 L’Eau, €126 for 100ml, launches on September 1

When it comes to beauty I know what I like and rarely stray. Several years of working as a beauty editor exposed me to more products than I knew what to do with, so these days I tend to stick to a core selection, favouring quality over quantity. However, following the recent launch of Chanel N?5 L?Eau, I’ve added this fresh new scent to my beauty bag. It’s lighter and more refined than the original and I just can’t get enough.

Bo pompom-embellished metallic leather ballet flats, €300, Sophia Webster at netaporter.com

And because fashion should always be fun I’ll be investing in something utterly impractical for the colder months like Sophia Webster’s Bo pompom-embellished metallic leather ballet flats. After all, if fashion doesn’t make you smile, what’s the point?
