New Music Dublin

by Bill O'Sullivan
08th Mar 2014

Building up momentum and gathering talent along its way, the Dublin New Music Festival has gone from niche to strength, and can now consider itself one of the significant music dates on the calendar. Gigs New Simplicity composer Hans Abrahamsen will be present and will be part of a Q&A with Donnacha Dennehy ahead of Crash Ensemble’s performance of Schnee, hailed as one of the groundbreaking compositions of the century. Not to be missed is Icebreaker’s reinterpretation of Kraftwerk’s music. After their successful Brian Eno tour, the group will be doing another reworking of a giant of electronic music, this time with an accompanying film directed by Sophie Clements and Toby Cornish. The short documents life around Ruhrgebeit where Kraftwerk are originally from, placing it as the focal point for the band’s interest in technological advances.

Schnee @ 11pm Saturday. Icebreaker @ 8 pm Saturday. For tickets and timetables see here.
