Author and campaigner Sinéad Burke has been featured in British Vogue’s list of 25 women shaping 2018, to be published in their July issue next week.
Vogue’s list, reflecting on what power means in the modern world, sees Sinéad featured alongside other female powerhouses such as popstar Dua Lipa, author J.K Rowling, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, model Adwoa Aboah and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, among others.
The piece comes after Sinéad featured on the cover of Business of Fashion magazine’s Influencer issue last month, alongside Kim Kardashian. Her cover shot sees her dressed in a Burberry trench coat, cut down to fit her figure.
Sinéad was born with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that affects bone growth. Standing at 3ft 5in tall, she is aware of the limitations of fashion design for other little people and has spent the past few years campaigning for inclusivity in design at all levels.
Her TED Talk, entitled Why design should include everyone has been viewed more than 1.2 million times and Sinéad is also a co-founder of the Inclusive Fashion & Design Collective, the first fashion trade association for people with disabilities.
Her continued advocacy for people with disabilities in the world of fashion has seen her featured in some of the biggest publications and events in fashion, including sitting front row at London Fashion Week and just this week, attending Central Saint Martins graduate show. She is also regularly invited to speak at fashion and educational institutes around the world about her experiences with inclusive fashion, and how the industry can improve design for others.
