High temperatures with thundery showers: Storm Ernesto is about to hit Ireland

The tail end of tropical Storm Ernesto is set to hit Ireland this weekend, with thundery downpours and humid temperatures forecast.

The storm, which is the fifth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, is currently moving towards Europe over the Atlantic, after causing high winds in Canada this week.

Storm Ernesto is not expected to cause any widespread damage, however, around 13mm of rain is expected on Saturday night, according to Met Éireann. Combined with unusually balmy temperatures of up to 17 degrees, Saturday night may see the arrival of some thunderstorms due to the humidity.

After the storm has passed, Sunday will start our humid and wet but will turn brighter across the country throughout the day, with only light showers. The humidity, however, will continue into the night and until Monday morning, with scattered outbreaks of showers.

While the storm may be gone, the rain and balmy weather show no signs of stopping until well into next week. Cancel that end-of-summer BBQ now then!
