Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester Welcomes A Baby Girl

by Jennifer McShane
26th Sep 2015

Actress Leighton Meester has given birth to a baby girl. According to reports, Meester welcomed her first baby with husband and former Gossip Girl co-star Adam Brody earlier in August, but?the happy news has only surfaced now.

The couple are’decidedly private when it comes to their relationship and life in general; they married last year in a low-key, hush-hush ceremony and news of Meester’s pregnancy only broke when she was apparently six months in. US Weekly reports that the pair has chosen to name their newborn daughter Arlo Day, which we think is a lovely and unique choice. Arlo is said to be often a name typically given to males, so it seems the couple have gone down a route similar to their former co-star Blake Lively, who named her first-born daughter James.

The actress and her husband first met in 2011 and co-starred together in The OC as well as 2014’s Life Partners. During a Reddit AMA last August, Brody joked about wanting many kids with Meester. ?I’ll take 12,? he joked in the interview. And Meester was also very forthcoming about wanting a family herself. ?It’ll be kids next. I like the grown-up stuff. I like having a house. I’ve got dogs,? she said, prior to her pregnancy.

Given the fact that the couple have managed to keep the birth of their daughter under wraps for so long (no easy task in a world of eagle-eyed celebrity watchers), we highly doubt that we’ll see any social media snaps pronouncing their sheer delight with their new bundle of joy (a la Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake) or any similar posts making such details public as Lively did on her website Preserve.

Still, a hearty congratulations are in order for the popular couple, who receive a lot of love online thanks to their infamous character portrayals of Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen.

What do you think of their name choice?
