Your dog. Your hairy best friend. Regardless of your personal ups and downs, or those days when you just don’t fancy being covered in hair, they’re always there to suffocate you with love, remind you that they really missed you that time you went to use the bathroom for all of two minutes. And if there’s one time of year that you should take a time out to give something back to your little pooch (no but really, please give them some loving every day) it’s at Christmas. These days, you’re no longer confined to your supermarket’s paltry choice of doggy bones with which to gift your pet. No, there’s a whole world of luxury and affordable treats available, from Mutt Ugly to Brown Thomas and other outlets online. For a different kind of gift guide, this Christmas we caught up with Editor-In-Chief Melanie Morris’ miniature schnauzer, Flumpy – otherwise known as Mr Flumps – to see how he likes to spend his favourite time of year.

Evening, Mr. Flumps. So where do you normally go for Christmas?

Well now, woof woof. Mr Rigley and Mrs Rigley go away every year, so I spend the holidays with my best schnauzer friend Rizzo and his family. They give me full Christmas dinner – turkey, sausages, stuffing and gravy. Totally worth woofing for. It’s my favourite meal, then we crash out on the coach in our Santa suits. Woof.

Barbour Quilted Dog Coat €40 Brown Thomas

If your pooches prefer to go coat free, some festive socks, modelled here by the dogs at Mutt Ugly, ought to work a treat.

And do you recall your first Christmas memory?

I do, woof. Being asked to participate in my first annual Muttugly Christmas video, here -?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yyBPuQAnDs. And playing the part of Toto in Sandford Road school’s production of The Wizard of Oz. They gave me an Argyle hooded sweater as my appearance fee. I still wear it, it’s vintage now though, woof woof.

Your pet’s not invited to your Christmas party? They should be. Especially if they’re rocking this jingly collar, €19.99 at petshoponline.ie

Flumps just won’t know that Santa’s coming til he’s got his own festive wardrobe sorted out. This one costs €16.99 at petshoponline.ie

If you’re one of those democratic families who find a place in their hearts for both dogs and cats, then this ‘vila’ for your furry friends will go down a treat. €47.96 Brown Thomas

What will you be giving as Christmas presents this year, we hear you prefer to give than receive?

This is true, woof. Either sausages, ham or iced biscuits from?cheekydogbakery.com. They are three of my favourite things, so everyone else loves them too, obviously.

Flumpy loves his comforts, this bed would make for the perfect Christmas present, sure to send your furry friend asleep as soon as the turkey’s been served. Prices start from €20 on amazon.com.

Lastly, Flumps, what are you wishing for this Christmas?

Ham. And a new fuzzy chew toy. And a surprise from Santa Paws.

No dog’s Christmas is complete without a doggy selection box. These ones are available in Mutt Ugly, along with lots of other treats.

We’d like to thank Flumpy for taking time out of his busy schedule to inspire the dogs of Ireland with his Christmas wishes.

If you’d like to treat your own Flumpy this festive season, we recommend paying Mutt Ugly in Ranelagh a visit. Whether you indulge them in some luxurious grooming or opt for something from their doggy dining collection, or even a cosy hoody, you’ll certainly find all you need. http://muttugly.myshopify.com/
