Rob Kennedy, father of two, has gone viral after starting his own YouTube channel teaching basic “dad” skills like hanging a shelf and tying a necktie.
Rob Kennedy is a proud father of two, Kristine and Kyle, and while he has taught them everything he knows, Rob wanted to share his fatherly advice with others around the world.
Rob was raised in a dysfunctional family. After his parents’ divorce, his father won full custody of him and his seven siblings. But when Rob was just 14-years-old, his dad abandoned them and he had to move in with one of his older brothers.
Forced to learn many life skills on his own, Rob promised to pass on his lessons to anyone that didn’t have the opportunity to learn from their own dad, like himself.
So, when quarantine started, he decided to use the extra time to create his own Youtube channel for those who struggle from a broken home or have an absent parent.
His channel is cleverly called “Dad, How Do I?” and in it, he shares quick fix videos on how to shave, how to change a tyre, how to hang a shelf, how to tie a tie, etc.
In his latest video, he teaches viewers how to fix a running toilet — an idea he got after his daughter called him and asked for his help. He even throws in a few cringey dad jokes along the way.
Rob’s channel has already jumped to over a million subscribers and the dad thanked everyone for their support, happy to see his videos helping so many people.
“There are certain things people might do differently [and] that’s fine. But if you don’t have a way, maybe you can use me as a resource to figure things out,” he said.
“I’m hoping my channel is just a way to empower people, to see if you can try and figure it out yourself because some of these tasks aren’t as hard as maybe we’re led to believe.
“Love you, guys! I can’t even express how amazed I am at the support you’ve given me and I just wanted to say a sincere thank you.”
It’s great to see people like Rob, passing on kindness and encouragement to people during the pandemic.
So many of us are self-isolating away from parents or never had someone to ask these simple skills, so it’s great to see someone like Rob passing on his wisdom.
One viewer commented: “I really really love this. As someone who doesn’t have a great relationship with my dad, these videos feel like a warm hug. Learning how to fix things is an added bonus.”
